Car park closures – Where to park

The Bird Street and Friary Outer car parks will be closed during the Bower. There are other car parks available including the multi-storey on Birmingham Road.

EARLY BIRD WRISTBANDS NOW AVAILABLE!

The Bower Committee has taken into account recent feedback posted on Twitter concerning the cost of initially getting into Beacon Park on Bower Day. As of this year, Early Bird Wristbands will be available from key locations within the city for just £1 instead of £3 on the day,, with under 5′s free, hopefully answering the critics that feel local people shouldn’t have to pay to get into their park. “We would love to make the Bower a free event, however with yearly costs such as policing, park hire, security to mention a few, it is at this stage impossible as costs are in excess of £50,000. I am hoping that a £1 entry fee will be a compromise that people will embrace and feel able to support Lichfield’s oldest tradition – but they must be purchased before Bower Day.

Lichfield Bower Day falls on the same Bank Holiday as the Queen’s Jubilee Celebrations on 4th of June and we want to make it a year to remember. I want everyone in Lichfield to get involved and support the event – the more input we receive during planning, the more successful it will be.” commented Beth Colley, Beacon Park Organiser, who is really urging people of all ages to get in contact in order to sculpt the day into something that people really want to attend and feel part of.

Wristbands are available now from Lichfield Health & Fitness Club, Cherry Vanilla, The Spark Cafe Bar, Michaels Menswear and George IV Public House.

Bower needs your Help -available positions!

We urgently require a Health and Safety Officer with own Public Indemnity Insurance to assist with the Lichfield Bower – unpaid hard work but very rewarding!! If you are or know of anyone please contact Michael Mullarky on 01543 263653

Also require a Catering Organiser to organise catering for the Bands and Civics etc on Bower Day and various other functions throughout the year – as with all of the positions on the committee unpaid hard work but very rewarding!!

It’s been a busy week! First Twitter and now we have an official Facebook group. It’s a great way to find out the latest news and also to dispel some of the more common myths surrounding the Bower! It’s all changed dramatically since the tradition began back in the days of Henry II – having to pay to hire the park, policing, security to name a few – the bill tops £50,000 – but it’s all worth it, it’s a great day out and we raise money for charity as well! Please support us if you can!

Bower Route remains the same!

Following receipt of a petition from local residents the Bower Committee took the decision to keep the traditional route for the procession the same as previous years. We are hoping to see crowds supporting the event throughout the route and are looking forward to a successful event.

Following the procession we have a full programme of events in Beacon Park – a great day out for the whole family!

Bower Queen Search 2012

The search has begun to find a young woman with the personality to become this year’s Lichfield Bower Queen. This year the event coincides with celebrations for the Queens Diamond Jubilee on Monday 4th June. We are seeking a candidate who loves the Bower, is enthusiastic and can shine on the day.

There are some great prizes on offer and a fun year promoting Lichfield and the Bower for the lucky winner! The selection evening is being held on Sunday March 25th at Lichfield Golf and Country Club.

Prince and Princess chosen for 2011

Over 40 children between the ages of 5-15 arrived at Lichfield Guildhall on Sunday April 10th for this years selection event.

The children were invited, in their age groups, to enjoy dancing and presenting their best smiles for the panel of four judges.

The deputy Prince and Princess were chosen from the children aged 5-9 and the Prince and Princess were chosen from the older category aged 10-15.

In attendance were Deputy Bower Queen Chloe Gregory, Mayors Lady Norma, Deputy mayor Brian, Sheriff Colin and his Lady Donna and Rosemary Bagwin from Bojangles.
